My name is Sean Kirkwood. Having retired from social work, I retrained as a professional cycle mechanic. I recently opened a little bike shop locally, within the Colne Indoor Market Hall in Lancashire. I have long held a passion for cycling and a deep seated love for the glory days of the sport’s past. I have been an enthusiastic touring cyclist since the early 1970’s, being a long time member of the Cyclists Touring Club, now known as Cycling UK. Recently I have completed numerous sportive rides including the 2017 Fred Whitton classic in the English lake district. In the distant past I competed in numerous marathons and triathlons. Also climbed the Munros, all the Scottish peaks of more than 3000ft. I have worked as a cycle mechanic in Spain and been involved with many sportive bike ride events organised by locally-based Pennine Events.
As music aficionados yearn for vinyl. There are many and a growing number of cyclists who hark back to the glory days of the hand built steel frames before carbon fibre took over. My aim is to keep beautiful steel made bikes from this bygone but golden era of cycling in circulation. I admire the values of past cycling, my sporting hero being the great Eddy Merckx. I want to reconnect others to the heritage of the beautiful enamelled and lugged steel bike. Not only road race bikes, but touring and leisure town bikes. There is a romance in cycling and in particular, riding a steel framed road bike of the past, embraces the values and ethos of sustainability. The beauty is that most of past hand built steel frame can be restored. They can be stripped down, repainted and completed with authentic decals of the period and brought back to their former glory.
I have a specific interest in renovating Classic used bikes and parts which date between the 1960’s to the early 1990’s. I have a limited stock of bikes, frames, components and accessories. I also offer a custom build service where you can a have a steel frame built up with parts of your choice. However, I undertake repairs and services to ALL bikes, from simple replacement of parts to full overhauls and everything in between. If you are unsure as to what work needs carrying out. I will happily look at your bike and give you a free estimate.
Feel free to drop your bike off with me within my opening hours, or you can always give me a call or an Email to book your bike in before dropping it off.

Below are the services I offer:
